Have you heard of Pinterest? If not, let me introduce you to one of the most fun ways to organize your creative bookmarks. Think of Pinterest as a series of inspiration boards, just waiting to be filled up with inspiring things. Each board is given a theme (by you) and you place “pins” on your board. A pin is basically a photo that links to an inspiring blog post, tutorial, recipe, product, anything really.
My Pinterest account will tell you a lot about myself. For instance, I love crafts (of course) so I have board for Crafty Goodness, and Crafty Tutorials. I like cupcakes, photobooths, polaroids, and typography so you’ll see boards dedicated to inspiring photos and projects in those categories as well. You have the ability to post whatever you like; whatever inspires you and your creativity.
To get started on Pinterest you need to request an invitation. Since the site is still in beta, you can’t simply join, though I’m sure you will be able to in the future. You have a few options to request an invite: you can visit the front page and simply enter your email and wait. Or, you can find someone you know with a Pinterest account and ask them for an invitation. This is definitely the quickest method. I’m sure anyone who is using Pinterest would be happy to invite you, since it’s such a fun thing to share. I am not sure how many invites each person is given, but you can certainly email me for an invite as well: sam[at]simplecrafter.com.
Once you get an invitation, create some boards, pin some fun things, find some friends, and have fun! Be sure to also install the Bookmarklet, a handy tool that makes it easy to pin any photo while browsing online.
