Tutorial: Cabochon Post Earrings

These earrings are so simple to make, and so inexpensive that you could easily make a pair for every color of the rainbow.

Materials:

Cabochons (2 in each color)
Earring posts (I used 6mm, but 8mm would work as well)
Earring backs

Tools:

Hot Glue Gun

A note on the cabochons:  I love the look of the resin chrysanthemum ones, but you can easily find other flowers and designs as well.  I used the purple ones as part of an assortment pack from Prima, but you can find more colors and varieties on Etsy as well.  A quick search for “resin mum cabochons” in the supplies section gives you hundreds of results and colors to choose from.  Depending on the seller you could buy anywhere from two pieces, to 100 in all different colors.

If you use the same cabochons I used by Prima, you will have to remove the glue from the back of them (they are meant to be used as scrapbooking embellishments.)  I used a craft knife to get the glue off of the backs.

First, heat up your glue gun.  Once hot, place a small amount of glue in the center of the back of your first cabochon.

Press the back of your earring post into the glue and hold there until the glue has cooled (just a few seconds.)

Repeat for the other earring.  Slip on an earring back, and you’re done.

I told you it was simple!  These would be great to give as gifts to a girlfriend.  Make her a pair in each of her favorite colors.  I typically wear larger earrings, but the look and feel of these makes me want to wear them everyday.
